What’s at Stake:
The State of Washington is addressing a $1.4 billion shortfall in the current biennial budget. The governor has asked Washington State agencies to recommend reductions of 10%. These cuts would devastate the most vulnerable among our population—especially women and their children. Cuts of this magnitude are unacceptable after two years of just cuts (more details can be found here).
The Reality:
Facing a budget shortfall, the state continues to balance the budget by cutting critical and life saving services.
This unfairly thrusts our states burden on those least able to bear it.
We can do better.
We expect more.
Enough cuts.
Check out the proposed cuts, and the corresponding tax breaks that if eliminated, would avoid those cuts here.
The Solution:
We must raise revenue by eliminating tax breaks. There are many to choose from that don’t impact the average Washingtontax payer. See a list of possible tax breaks here.
To do this, we must raise our voices.
We must tell our legislators we care about our future, that prevention saves us money, and that we are unwilling to create a permanent underclass in Washington State.
